Mum contacted me for photos when baby girl was 1 week old. I fit them in two days later. Planning the session in just two days meant asking Mum to send me photos from my collection of what colours she liked. I then made up several setups (either blankets for the posing bed or props) and sent them back to her. She was able to choose exactly what she liked so I knew what to bring with me. I did bring a few extra setups that were in her preferred colours, in case we needed them. I am an overpacker, there is no doubt about that. You never know when you might need something! ;P
So bub was in that nice newborn window recommendation of 6-10 days old. Don’t get me wrong, you can still get gorgeous photos of your baby at any age - this is more just to keep them sleepy and curly. Well, guess who didn’t want to sleep? This cutie was very alert for her first photoshoot, which is totally fine! :) She was content and calm, which is what we aim for. We started with family photos since she was awake. Then we moved on to prop #1. With some perseverance and a lot of patience, she finally drifted off for a bit. While I was waiting for her to reach Sleepytown, it was the perfect opportunity to grab some detail shots of her hands and feet. I loved the setups Mum chose! The first one was a gorgeous purple floral bowl and dark wood flooring followed by a cream bowl with a flokati backdrop. Baby got hungry after these two setups so she went to have a feed. We did one more beige and cream setup once she finished, this time on the posing bed, and got some adorable eye contact to finish off the session <3
Can I just remind everyone, even if it’s not with me, please book a newborn photoshoot. I don’t see how anyone could possibly regret it. I didn’t get newborn photos done for my first son (thinking that I could do them myself..HA!) I wish I could go back in time. That is something I will always look back on and think, if only I knew better. Then with my second son, we learned our lesson and booked a session but it was at the photographer’s studio. The photos were nice enough (except the family and sibling shots - see below explanation), but it meant we had to pack everyone up and get there on time (SO stressful), my baby HATED car rides (oh, the shrieking!!!), my toddler was acting very awkward as he was uncomfortable in new surroundings (cue awkward looking family and sibling photos), and it would have been so much easier to just have someone come to us and take photos of us in our own home, where our memories lay, where our lives happen.
Make sure you capture these special moments with memories that will last a lifetime!
